Our
Story
Welcome to Crafter’s Drop-in – where creativity meets community.
We’re a little community craft hub in Hartlepool, run by people who get it. Life can be hard, lonely, or overwhelming sometimes—and we believe having a safe, welcoming space to make something with your hands can make all the difference.
Crafter’s Drop-in C.I.C. was set up to do just that. We’re a not-for-profit, neurodivergent-led organisation where everyone’s welcome—whether you’re a complete beginner or a lifelong maker, whether you come for the crafts, the company, or just a quiet cuppa.
At the heart of what we do is our Craft Exchange—a colourful treasure trove of donated supplies where nothing goes to waste. People swap, donate, or pick up craft bits and bobs for free or a small donation. It’s our way of making creativity more affordable, reducing waste, and sharing the joy of making.
We also run free craft and sewing sessions every week, with no pressure, no judgment, and plenty of encouragement. Our sewing room is fully stocked with machines—including old-fashioned treadles and hand-cranks, perfect for those who prefer them. Whether you’re mending clothes, learning to sew for the first time, or just want to sit and stitch with others—you’ll find a friendly face and a helping hand here.
Most of our volunteers (like our founder!) are neurodivergent, and that shapes everything we do. We believe in creating spaces that are calm, kind, flexible, and built around real people’s needs—not ticking boxes.
Everything we do is powered by community, compassion, and creativity. We’re here for those who need connection, confidence, or just a quiet moment with a ball of wool and someone to talk to.
Come as you are. You’re welcome here.
